If you use Google Calendar to keep your appointments and to-dos in the “cloud” as we do, then keep a close eye on your email inbox because you might see some suspicious email come in.
Google Calendar
Google Calendar has been an indispensable tool for us here at Point Click since its launch in 2006. It lets us book meetings with staff members and clients book time to work on projects and let the others know about it and generally keeps our time in the office nice and organized. It’s been such a great time saving tool for us we’ve been endlessly recommending it to our customers for its ease of use and sync capabilities with devices.
But as with all popular internet tools these days it seems dark forces (ie. spammers and phishers) have sunk their teeth into it and are looking for ways to trick information out of you. Lately it’s been reported that some people have been receiving emails asking about legitimate events on their calendar and asking for their account info to verify they are the owner of that account. Google has responded stating…
We are actively identifying Calendar accounts that send spam and disabling them. -Google Rep
Google has also posted an article on its blog to help users spot any phishiing scams they might recieve. So if you use Google calendar check it out!
