Last week, we gave you a chance to explore the world of online video and how to market your business with it. The big trend-setter of course is YouTube, but there are always alternatives if you wish to further your video promoting ventures.

What we’re looking at this week are some of the top alternatives for video posting, to be used in conjunction with, or as alternatives to YouTube.

Google Video

If you don’t follow technology news all that closely, Google Video was Google’s version of YouTube and was in direct competition with the latter for some time until YouTube finally stood up and took precedence as the web’s leader in online video. Google responded by purchasing YouTube for, well let’s say… a lot of clams. However, the Google Video option is still a popular alternative and also allows users to view Google Video and YouTube videos from within the same site.

Yahoo! Video

Yahoo! Video is yet another video sharing site that organizes all of its content in categories and allows user discussion and rating. Additionally, the Yahoo! Video library is entirely searchable from with the Yahoo! Directory.

Metacafe

Metacafe collects data based on the input of its users, and uses it to rank its videos. The owners of the videos can receive high ratings on their videos and have the opportunity to generate revenue directly from Metacafe based on performance.

Blip.tv

Blip uses a different kind of format. They provide hosting for users to record and post their own shows. Users can also participate in Blip’s advertising program and receive a share of the revenue generated by their videos. Ustream.tv also offers videos in this same format.

Break.com

Break publishes more humorous videos of stunts, gags, and practical jokes. If the videos submitted receive enough attention, they can be sold to Break and have a spot on their homepage. Break.com will pay up to $2,000 to the video publisher. Normally this wouldn’t be the best option for promoting a business, but depending on your business and the direction you’re looking to take your campaign, if you are looking more towards the humorous side of things, then Break may be for you.

These are just a few of the most popular options that can take your online marketing to the next level. If you already have your next campaign in the works, or if you’re looking for the right direction to take in online video marketing, contact Point.Click Media for additional help.
