There are certain points in our lives when we’re overcome with feelings of euphoria and excitement at the prospect of what the future may bring. Graduation, marriage, the birth of ones children – they’re all great moments – but nothing quite compares to that feeling that web developers get when a security hole-ridden internet browser finally gets taken to the woodshed for some eternal R&R.

*Cough*IE6*cough*

OK, so technically Internet Explorer 6 isn’t quite dead yet. It still owns a 5-10% share in the browser world, after being cut in half in the last year, which was also down half again from 2008. YouTube, Facebook, Google Apps (including Gmail) and countless other major websites have all dropped support for IE 6, allowing it to hopefully end up on the top of the compost heap next to the rotting carcass of Netscape Navigator.

Some folks in California have even gone ahead and held a funeral for IE6.

You’ve all be so patient, listening to my ramblings about IE6 for long enough. We’re sooo close people. You grab the torches, I’ll grab the pitchforks. We’re going browser-lynching tonight.
