Have you ever seen those infomercials on at 4:00 in the morning where some guy in a 3 piece suit is standing in front of his 1o million dollar mansion and 3 pimped out Lamborghinis with his supermodel girlfriend bragging about how he raked in a billion dollars over the weekend on the internet? Lucky for you he’s willing to share his secret if you buy his 10 page book for 19 easy installments of $700. He’s even going to throw in a ShamWOW to sweeten the deal.
Well, contrary to what this jailbird is telling you… there’s really no get rich quick schemes out there for social media. If there were, they wouldn’t be schemes at all would they? They would make for a pretty popular business model.
Social media can do great things for your business if done properly, but don’t expect to reel in the moon overnight. Is it realistic to think that your campaigning will take off and go viral? Probably not. But just because you don’t have a million college students watching your YouTube videos every day doesn’t mean you should be ignoring all the potential benefits of social media. Results aren’t always measured by the accounting department and there’s no ignoring the fact that a positive influence on your customers via social media can reap big benefits from buyers down the road.
Keep your expectations modest first and foremost. Don’t expect people to be smashing down the front door because you posted a Tweet about your big sale. Social media should always be done alongside your other marketing avenues, meaning that if you are indeed tweeting about the big sale, if anything it serves as a reminder to your customers of something they may have heard on the radio or read in the newspaper.
There are all kinds of ways to integrate social media directly with your advertising campaigns. If you are looking to meet or exceed your campaign expectations, contact Point.Click Media. This concludes our 5 part series on social media mistakes.
